Tutorial: Solution for changing the New Domain Name (modifying the .htaccess file)

Well this tutorial is on overcoming the problem when you do change your domain name to the new one. Refer to my last article. Let us, straight to the point. I consider in this case your old web site did have the .htaccess file in the web directory or the web host allows you to put the .htaccess file. There is one thing that should be considered; generally the web hosting that use the Apache server will have that facility.

Take this code for the example in the .htaccess.

When you do that actually you tell the server to ask the browser to load the new site when the visitors are in the old domain name. So, how about the searching engine? The searching engine also follow the link to index the new URL, and transfer the page rank of your old page to the new one.

But what if we don’t have the .htaccess file or the web host doesn’t allow doing so? Well, you could set up an automatically redirecting page by inserting the following META tag in the "head" section of your web page. Keep it all in one line in your page.

Well, I hope this tutorial will help you a lot out there!! Adios!!!

Switch to The New Domain Name Issue

Since, I did cover so much on the basic thing about web hosting, so I got no such idea on the basic topic that I should discuss about. Suddenly, I thought about an issue on changing the url. For an example a company of beer maker, the Bristol (www.the-bristol.com) wants to change the domain name to be (www.beer-bristol.com).

In this article I want to discuss on the pro and cons of changing the domain name. Well, I think I should point on the pro of changing the domain name first. In this case I do consider on this beer maker company. The most obvious pro on changing the domain name for them here is they are making their domain name (url) to be more SEO friendly by emphasizing the word of beer(make the beer as their keyword) in their domain name.

For the SEO friendly aspect that’s good but what will be happened to user that used to be accessed the web via www.the-bristol.com? They couldn’t reach the site by using the new domain name. That’s the most obvious cons of having the new domain name cuz for sure you’ll lose ton of your existing visitors.

Is it means I mustn’t change the domain name at all? Nah, it’s not like that. You have 2 solutions on that! The first one is making a page that could automatically forward to your new site (redirection page from the old domain name) and the second one is put a link in your old web site to let the users go to the new url.

But there is a problem on those both alternative ways. For the first solution, the problem that will be appeared is you might be lost the search engine listing. Generally (not all the searching engine did), the searching engines hate the redirection page. The old one will be deleted if they see the redirection page (when the spider returns to check your site). That’s mean you have to start the search engine listing from zero. Is that what you wish at?

The problem that been appeared for the second approach is when the visitors come to the old site, they just could see the new domain name asking you to go there. There is a possibility that the visitors feel that lazy to go to the new url. So, by using the second approach you still risk yourself to loose the visitors too on your new sites.

“Well, based on the discussion above, the new url just brings more harm to the new site”. That’s not true; you still could do something to overcome the problem! The best solution is by modifying your .htacess file. But I will not cover it here cuz it’s too long to be in this article and this might be made you bored to read the whole article. I’ll continue with it after this. Adios!

Part 2 : What should you when you change the web host?

This is the part 2 of the web hosting tutorial. I hope you guys out there enjoy the tutorial!

3. Update your DNS of the domain name

I do consider that you’ve been doing those 2 steps above. Hence, this is the time on working in the technical things. Since you are using the new web hosting so, you need to know on what is the DNS of the new web hosting. Copy the DNS number.

Login to your domain name account. Go to ‘manage your DNS’ part. Paste the new web DNS number in that section. Choose to save and you have to wait for some couple of hours before the DNS propagates (depend on the web hosting provider, some of them take 2 days long.

4. Add your domain name to the new web hosting.

Login to your helm or cpanel account. Choose on add on domain. If your DNS did propagates well, there is no problem in adding the domain name in the account. But, if it doesn’t an error message will be appeared on telling the DNS number is not match. That’s mean; you need to wait some other couple of hours.

5. Upload the files

If every thing is completely perfect, you could start to host your files to your new web hosting. Again, use the FTP software to make the uploading files. After you do this step, upload the database that you had save from the old server. Just use your .txt database file and it’s done!

Tutorial Part 1 : What should you when you change the web host?

mmm…for these few days, I’ve been thinking hardly on the topic or the web hosting tutorial that should I bring into this web hosting blog. After thinking in some while and being in some forum, reviewing their problems suddenly I got an idea. Thus, I’m going to come out with tutorial on the few actions that we should take if we are changing the new web hosting account. Remember, in this article I don’t mean we are changing our web site’s domain name. We only move to the new web hosting. It’s like we are moving to the new house. (I did explain on this in the last article)

  1. Copy all the files to your machine

Since you are moving the sites to the new web host, so the very first thing that you should do is copy all the files from the web hosting. What I mean is if you do have the web site or a system, copy all of them from the server. You could do that by using any FTP software. If you are kind of me (I save those files in my local machine all the time) so you could skip this stage.

2. Copy your database

This is one of the most crucial parts. You really need to copy the database in order to make sure when you are launching the web site in the new web hosting there are no such most update listing, info or the new members of the site been dropped since there is no such backup for the database.

Some of my friends ask me on how to copy the database from the server. They told me they hate to build up the database again. LOL!! It’s easy, if you are using the mySql just go to the list of the databse in your web server and choose which one of them. Then, you just dump the mySQL and save it as .txt. The size is extremely light but yet it’s really powerful though.

Since there are 5 steps to be included in the tutorial so I make a decision to split up the tutorial to be in part1 and part2. Hope you guys enjoy this article and may it could help you in your web hosting management. Have a nice day!!

Create email in your cpanel or HELM

Hi all, today I want to talk about creating the email from your web server. In this case, I'm assumed all of us have a domain name and a web hosting. Many of the users today prefer to have our very own email with our name. This is an example scott@scottish.com. So how we are going to do it? What is the constraint? Can i put any name for @xx.com? Can I add some other name from my domain name?

I think that's the questions for the newbies. But, don't worry...I will cover those issues based on my knowledge and my experiences.

In order for you to create those mails, you must be in your web server. Check out for the emails feature. You could create the mail accounts from the email feature page. Normally, a web hosting account will offer such unlimited email accounts.

Now we are talking for the name of @xxx.com..I think of all us have our own desire name on it. But, although the web hosting package will say "UNLIMITED EMAIL ACCOUNT". That doesn't mean you can create any name, @xxx.com for it. The name must be based on your domain name.. As an example you have a domain name of www.snacks.com so the email will be yourname@snacks.com.

You couldn't create any name unless you have other domain name that match to your wish. E.g you want yourname@mybox.com.au Therefore you have to own a domain of www.mybox.com.au. I think my explanation is pretty clear and if u have any questions you may ask me. :)

Domain names : How to choose?

In these days there are bundles of domain names that simply alive in the internet world. You can see various types of them. Some of them are very easy to be remembered and some of them are so hard! For the most easy like hotmail and yahoo, they must have the ten fold visitors. Why? Their domain names are so easy to spell and to remember. So make a good choice before you are making the domain registration!

Let me give you an example to make it more clear. I'm taking a simple example a company : dexterous technologies. They choose the dexteroustech.com. Wut a name! They tend to make the visitors in wrong spelling and it's hard to remember!

But, when we are talking on how easy the domain names to be remembered....don't make a nasty shot on choosing it. Since I'm telling you that the domain name must be easy, you just pick www.22.com for your jewelry web site. That's out of the mind and you will face a hard time with the searching engine (key word).

Let say you do have a company, a web site and wish to sell jewelries online. Your company is bestquality enterprise. So, instead of use the name bestquality.com,choose the www.best-jewelry.com. That's easy right? Your customer will remember you and in the same time your domain name will work well with the searching engines! So, do you get it? I think you are in the clear position about this issue and I hope it will help lot of people out there!

FTP usage

Hi all, in the previous postings I gave you tons of explanations and briefings on web hosting. So today I think it's better for me to be straight to the point on how to host a web hosting or website hosting. Let say u did buy the web server and the domain names, so the big next thing is to host your web to be published in the internet.

Without hosting it, it's zero and useless for buying the web hosting, buying the domain name and do the domain name registration.

So in order for you to put your web sites in the web server, you need the FTP to do the website hosting. I know there are bundles of FTP software out there. So for the newbie it must be hard to do selection. From my very own experiences, the best FTP software is FileZilla FTP. It's really easy to use and the transfer time is much faster than the others. I'll stop now for this issue and I'll come with "what is FTP?", "Tutorial on using FTP" and "website hosting without FTP"

What is domain name?

“what is domain name”? “I think domain name is bundle in web hosting” Those were the question and the comment from my friends when somebody did ask them on a domain name. Some of them simply couldn't make any differentiate between domain name and “web hosting”. So let me give you some explanation on it and give some short and simple analogy.

Domain name is the name of our web site as an example we have yahoo web page, it's
www.yahoo.com, so the domain name is yahoo.com

Another example we have hotmail web page, so the domain name is hotmail.com. You still don’t get it? Let say, we go to Kentucky Fried Chicken website via www.kfc.com. Thus the domain name is kfc.com

mmm..it's easy right to understand?? :) i'll come back with the other topic and review! adios!!!
